We’re back at that chillest of surfer beach bars Sunday afternoon - The Striped Horse @thestripedhorsemuizenberg We’re in good form again. We have new material. The craft beers will be cold and the vaabz will be warm.

Now with the correct month - I’m a dozy fool. It’s been two and a half years! We’re a six piece band now and get to knock out some baller surf-guitar classics like the Hawaii Five-O theme tune. The Striped Horse is a great place for it - just by Surfer’s Corner with an open fire and a thick list of craft beers.

Surprise show with smooth and synthy headliners, @emergermusic, at Mercury live on Sat, 18th May. Also @coriander_colin. Strange bedfellows make for strange and magical nights. This isn’t the official event thingy, obvs. We just wanted to make sure you Krakatoa people got a heads-up.

I literally got every detail of our weekend gig wrong - except the venue. It’s on SUNDAY the 3RD at 3PM. To be fair it wasn’t all my fault. Plz pass on to interested parties. . .

I don’t know what time it’ll be and I misspelled Muizenberg. But it’ll be a reverb-soaked spectacle.

In Krakatoa’s first year, @sad_ivan left to live in England for a while on September 11, 2001 (I remember the exact date for some reason). So now I had to play all the guitar and he thoughtfully tabbed our this beautiful surf instrumental called, Roamin Bison, for me - and even added some helpful advice at the bottom. Good thing too, since both of us have long since forgotten how to play it. It’s on our soundcloud though if you want to search and listen.

So pumped to be playing with The Ratrod Cats at The White Rabbit on Sunday afternoon on the 29th. Surf and rockabilly go together like fire and dynamite.🔥 . .

You are the first to get a tiny teaser of our new song, Calypso - named after the Sea Witch from the Odyssey. I shot a little bit of video of @sad_ivan and Kane recording some demo tracks at my house and put a very early rough demo of the song as soundtrack. I’m starting to take Instagram a little more seriously, as some of you might have noticed. I’ve been meaning to learn to edit video for years. But this is the first piece I’ve ever shared. Trust me, it will get better! This Cack-handed attempt will be my benchmark (it would have been awesome if I’d managed to post it in wide rather than square format for starters) ...

The surf rig is almost perfect. But it’s the nature of electric guitar players to tinker. This old Japanese Fender has the right pickups, the right pick guard, and - almost - the right bridge. Worthy of fronting Africa’s longest running surf instro band, Krakatoa. link in bio.
