Ok. I’m not launching this site yet. I’ve pulled everything into it from my Instagram and got the text more or less working and videos and carousel images, etc.. So we go back 1000+ posts from when I got thoroughly grossed out by Instagram all the way back to when it seemed a great way to document times and share pictures.
I’ll launch it once it has a domain name.
So these… I wanted to experiment with my old Mamiya C220 TLR using the magnifying hood which should have given me perfect focus.
None of these pictures. Not one. is correctly focused. The one of my friend Frank is almost. And I feel I could have got that close easily with the regular focusing hood. I can only assume that I’m throwing the focus right off after nailing the close focus on the eyes and then recomposing for the image.
Then there’s whatever-the-hell is going on the eerie mottling. The fact that the first few images don’t have it suggests to me that it had something to do with the pressure of the inner winds of the Tri-X film on the spool as it sat for 20+ years. The outer ones were, I’d guess, a little looser against the paper backing. It looks weird but… I’m ok with it.
I’ve got a post-2020 film in the camera now and I’ll keep trying. See if I can get the focusing hood to work for me. Try remember how to make good photographs with this camera. I have faith it can be done.
