The very beautiful Impala. While the lowveld is thick with these, I never get tired of them. One of the most beautiful and graceful antelope you’ll ever see. In full panic they make astonishing leaps during their dashes for safety - taking to the air like 75kg swallows. Impala is one of the all-time most beautiful animal names. But I also like the Afrikaans, “rooibok,” - which means simply red buck.
I actually like this pic mostly because it’s sharp. The potential for massive resolution with a medium format camera and fine-grained slide-film is intoxicating, but maddeningly difficult to achieve in real life. This Pentax 67 lens is manual focus - so that’s one thing. But if you can’t get the camera’s maximum shutterspeed (1/1000th of a second for the Pentaxes) you’re also very likely to have less detail in the result than you’d get from a mid-resolution digital camera shooting at 1/4000th or so due to subtle motion-blur.
There’s a reason virtually no one takes wildlife pics with slide film anymore.
