Why do Capetonians think that any ‘fancy’ performance deserves an automatic standing ovation when at popular music shows they’re too cool to even clap? 🤔

We went to Handel’s Messiah last night which is I guess an Easter tradition? Certainly these two atheists spent more of Easter Sunday thinking about the life and death of Christ than most people do. Also I got to dress up for the second time in a weekend. I reckon I was one of 4 audience members in a tie.

But yeah. Some really good moments and some near disasters - with the choir following the conductor like a youtube vid that’s gone out of synch. Made me appreciate the skills of my high school, choir-master, Vetta Wise.

What would they have to have done to NOT get a standing ovation? Set themselves on fire? It was a decent performance, with a couple of great soloists (and some unintentionally hilarious members - scan the pic closely for one) but it wasn’t about to get me leaping to my feet.
